The Difference Between Theory, Hypothesis, and Law
Few scientific words are misunderstood as often as theory. In ordinary conversation, calling something “just a theory” usually means it is an idea, suspicion, or guess that has not been proven. Someone might have a theory about why their phone battery keeps dying or why a coworker missed a meeting. In science, however, the word has a much stronger meaning.
